Neurofeedback in Gatlinburg, TN

Neurofeedback in Gatlinburg, TN

Staying focused and alert is difficult for many, especially those who suffer from ADD and ADHD. Just as your body needs exercise to stay healthy, your mind requires training to stay “in shape.”

In the past, this “training” has proven elusive. Neurofeedback analyzes brain waves and provides immediate feedback to sharpen the mind. If you're interested in a healthier, more focused brain, please call (423) 482-8711 or contact Dr. Dalal Akoury online.

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

Also called QEEG training, neurofeedback focuses on your brainwaves. At the start of a neurofeedback session, a practitioner applies electrodes to your scalp in a key area. These electrodes monitor the different areas of the brain:

  • Frontal, which handles short-term memory
  • Central, which controls your senses and motor functions
  • Temporal, which deals with language, long-term memory and your personality
  • Parietal, which controls mental and physical self-boundaries
  • Occipital, which regulates visual processing

Each of these areas releases brainwaves, electrical pulses that can give an idea of how focused your brain is. Neurofeedback is non-invasive, painless and easy; you simply watch a movie, play a game or listen to relaxing music while a professional monitors your brainwave activity.

During the activity, rhythmic brain wave patterns emerge that indicate if you are losing focus. During your brain training, you'll be given feedback on these patterns through the activity you have chosen. For example, if you are watching a movie, the screen may dim or flicker. As you refocus your mind on the activity, this feedback will correct itself.

In essence, you will continually refocus every time you receive the negative feedback. The result is a sharper mind, even once the activity is complete.

Is Neurofeedback Right for Me?

Neurofeedback can help with a wide variety of attention disorders, learning disabilities and other conditions. Some of the problems that are frequently treated with neurofeedback include:

  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep disorders
  • Memory loss
  • Migraines / Headaches
  • Emotional health disorders

While neurofeedback isn't right for everyone, it can provide relief in areas where conventional medicine and medication have failed. Unlike those forms of traditional medicine, neurofeedback uses your brain's natural learning process and nothing else. Many people see noticeable progress in attentiveness, happiness and overall mental health after their neurofeedback course is complete.

If you have trouble staying focused or if you're struggling with anxiety, you may be a candidate for neurofeedback. A typical neurofeedback treatment course consists of 20 – 30 sessions, so it's crucial to get started as soon as you can.
